A pressed-leaf bowl is a seasonal display piece that shows off the shapes and colors of autumn leaves. The process is simple, but slow drying and careful layering help the bowl keep its form.
Choose materials that suit the project
Use flat, dry leaves and a small bowl covered with plastic wrap as a mold. A craft adhesive such as decoupage medium creates a decorative shell; because the finish is not food-safe, plan to use the bowl only for display or wrapped items.
Make it neatly
Overlap leaves like shingles so the shell has no large gaps. Thin coats dry more evenly than one heavy coat. Work over a protected surface and keep adhesive away from food and drink.
Display and store
Let adhesives and finishes dry completely before styling the finished piece. Keep it away from damp surfaces and direct heat, and store it flat or in a shallow box so delicate details stay in place.
Prepare the mold
Turn a small bowl upside down and cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Smooth wrinkles so they do not transfer into the finished rim.
Arrange the first leaves
Brush a thin layer of decoupage medium onto one leaf and place it on the mold. Overlap the next leaves slightly, working around the base.
Build an even shell
Add more overlapping leaves until the outside is covered. Brush a light coat over the layer, avoiding thick puddles and leaving the rim gently scalloped.

Dry, release and trim
Let the bowl dry completely, usually overnight or longer depending on the adhesive. Carefully peel it from the mold and trim loose edges with scissors.
Good to know
Common questions
Can I serve food in the leaf bowl?
No. Craft adhesive and decorative finishes are not food-safe. Use the bowl for display or lightweight wrapped items only.
Why are my leaves curling?
They may be too fresh, too brittle or coated with too much adhesive. Use flat dry leaves and apply thin, even coats.
How do I clean it?
Dust gently with a dry soft cloth. Do not soak or wash the decorative bowl.
