This natural Thanksgiving wreath uses a simple ring of flexible fallen twigs and one small cluster of dry leaves. The open shape keeps the materials visible, stays light on an indoor hook and is easy to store after the season.
Gather flexible, clean materials
Choose dry, clean twigs that bend without cracking; thin willow or similar flexible branches work well. Avoid thorny, brittle or unidentified plant material. Use dry leaves that are intact and a soft cotton string to bind the ring. A finished wreath about 10 to 12 inches across is manageable for a beginner.
Build the twig ring before decorating
Make the base in several light layers instead of forcing one thick branch into a circle. Overlap the ends and tie them at a few points so the ring stays even. Add leaves only after the frame feels secure; a small off-center cluster lets the twig texture show.
Keep it light and hang it safely
Test the wreath over a table before hanging. Trim sharp ends, use a sturdy hook and keep the finished piece away from candles, fireplaces, heaters and damp outdoor weather. Dry foliage is flammable, so this is indoor seasonal decor—not a candle-side decoration.
Store it flat after Thanksgiving
Let any damp gathered twigs dry fully before storage. Place the wreath in a shallow box with tissue around the leaf cluster, keep it in a cool dry spot and avoid stacking anything on top.
Sort and check the twigs
Choose clean, flexible twigs in a few similar lengths. Remove loose debris and set aside brittle, thorny or sharp branches; do not force a twig that resists bending.

Form and tie the ring
Bend one twig slowly into a loose circle about 10 to 12 inches wide. Wrap the ends together with cotton twine, then add more twigs in the same direction, tucking and tying each layer until the ring feels firm.

Attach a small leaf cluster
Choose a small cluster of dry leaves and place it on one side of the ring. Tie the stems to the twigs with cotton string, leaving most of the frame open and visible.

Add a hanger and test the balance
Tie a short cotton loop at the top and lift the wreath over a protected surface. Adjust the loop until the ring hangs level, trim any poking ends and keep it away from heat and flame.

Common questions
Can I hang a twig wreath outside?
Use it indoors or in a sheltered spot. Rain, wind and damp weather can loosen the twigs and damage dry leaves.
How do I keep twigs from snapping?
Choose flexible fallen branches and bend them gradually around the ring. If a twig cracks or resists, set it aside and use a thinner one.
How should I store the wreath?
Let the wreath dry completely, then store it flat in a shallow box with light tissue around the leaf cluster. Keep it cool, dry and uncrushed.
