A few acorns and a short length of twine make a warm, natural accent for a fall table. The design is light, easy to store and simple to adjust for cloth or paper napkins.

Choose materials that suit the project

Gather intact acorns from a clean area, discard cracked or damp ones and brush off dirt. Let them dry thoroughly before crafting; if you are unsure about pests, use purchased craft acorns instead of gathered ones.

Make it neatly

Wrap twine around a cardboard ring or a loose coil sized to your napkin. Tie acorns on with small knots, keeping the caps secure and spacing the pieces so the ring still slides on and off easily.

Display and store

Let adhesives and finishes dry completely before styling the finished piece. Keep it away from damp surfaces and direct heat, and store it flat or in a shallow box so delicate details stay in place.

01

Prepare the acorns

Brush off dry debris and sort out cracked or soft acorns. Make sure each one is fully dry before attaching it.

02

Size the ring

Cut a narrow band from a cardboard tube or coil twine around a napkin to find a comfortable diameter. Leave enough room for the napkin to slide through.

03

Wrap the base

Cover the ring with close, even turns of twine. Tuck the starting end under the first wraps and secure the final end with a small knot or dot of craft glue.

04

Attach and test

Tie one or two acorns to the ring with short twine tails. Trim loose ends and test with the napkin; add a tiny glue dot under a cap only if it shifts.

Good to know

Common questions

Should I bake gathered acorns?

Use clean craft-supply acorns if you need a reliable pest-free material. Avoid heating unknown gathered items in a food oven.

How many acorns fit on one ring?

One or two small acorns are usually enough. Too many make the ring bulky and can snag fabric.

Will the rings fit paper napkins?

Yes. Make the loop slightly smaller for paper napkins and test the fit before finishing the full set.
